The Access to Mail Policy

The Access to Mail Policy applies to secure facilities such as; RYDCs (Regional Youth Detention Centers) and YDCs (Youth Detention Centers). This policy was made effective November 1, 2010 with a review date scheduled to fall on the same date of the next year. This gives the policy time to find out what does and what does not work. The policy says in simple terms that someone in a Department of Juvenile Justice facility receives the privilege to have outside communication with family and friends, with the notice that they are restrictions in some way to keep order and maintain security within the facility and program.

There is a 5 letter limit to what’s in the room. The mail that is sent or received however is unlimited. You would receive 2 stamps or postcards a week, provided by that specific facility all others will cost. Although when it comes to legal communication as far as getting in touch with your lawyer etc there are no limitations.
