The drum set is a relatively new instrument compared to other percussion
instruments. are different from other instruments in a way, The
drumset is constantly changing due to the demands of new music styles and
advancements in technology. There are various types of drums, although my
essay will be dealing mostly with the modern acoustic drumset. The best way
to keep up with modern drumming and new technology is to read drum
magazines regularly. Another good way to keep up with modern drumming,
which I would consider best, would be to listen to all types of modern
music such as Rock, Rap, Jazz and many more.

The bass drum is obviously the bass or low pitch drum in the set. The bass
drum is set on the floor with the batter of the drum facing vertically so
that a foot pedal may be used to hit the drum. The standard depth of a bass
drum shell is 14" and standard shell diameters range anywhere from 18"-26".
During the history of the drumset various bass sizes have been used for
certain types of music. The most common size bass drums used now are either
16" x 22" or 14" x 22". Smaller bass drums are often used by jazz drummers
to get a more soft and mellow sound, for example 14" x 20" or 16" x 20" are
a few of the sizes used by jazz drummers. Larger bass drums are often used
by rock drummers to get a heavier sound they usually use 16" x 24" or 16 x

ratio of one or two inches such as 11" x 12" or 10" x 12". Some
