The Phonograph

The phonograph was invented by Thomas Edison in 1877. It is not a very well known invention but a important one indeed. It was important and revolutionary because it was the first time anyone had stored music or words onto anything. This paved the way for CDs and DVDs. The phonograph also made music more and more popular.

The phonograph was overlooked in late 1800s because of the telephone which was invented just a year before the phonograph. The telephone was a bigger deal than any phonograph was at the time. With the invention of the phonograph and records, people now had a lifetime of music at their fingertips.Although people still attended concerts, many now listened to their music at home. One of the downsides of the phonograph however was that musicians had to redesign the way they wrote music. The phonograph only held a few minutes of music.
