The world is filled with many mind-boggling puzzles. Crossword puzzles, word searches, but the most complex puzzle ever made is the Rubik’s cube. Did you know that only about 5.8% of people living in the world can solve a Rubik’s cube, meaning out of the 6 billion people in the world, only about 350 million can solve a Rubik’s cube. You’re probably saying if only 5.8% of the world can solve it, it must be hard right? Well not really, in order to solve a Rubik’s cube you must learn a series of techniques called “Algorithms” used to solve the cube no matter how scrambled it may be, but first, lets take a look into the background of the Rubik’s cube.

the “cube” arose. During the spring of about 1974 the idea came to him, he loved games and decided to invent a puzzle where “nature was itself the opponent.”

Now that Erno had the idea, how would he actually create the cube? He even asked himself, "How could the blocks move independently without falling apart?" Well, the cube has twenty-six individual little cubes or “cubies” that all make up one big cube. Each layer of nine cubies can twist and the layers can overlap. Three squares in a row can form a new layer, except diagonally. At first Erno tried to use elastic band to hold the cube together, but that obviously didn’t work, so because of their shape, he made it so that the cubes would hold themselves together. He individually hand carved each and every “cubie” and marked each cubie with a different color.
