Mongolian Invasion of China

During the 13[th] century, the Mongolian nomads began and finished a full-scale conquest of China. They began their invasion under the command of the infamous Genghis Khan, but they finished it under his successor Kublai Khan. Nobody knows the exact reasons for the invasion, but many historians believe that there were three possible options; an attempt to keep the tribes united a desire for control of the Chinese silk trading routes, or just general expansion of territory.

it was only a matter of time before the tribes began to conflict with each other and broke apart, so he resolved that he needed to prevent that from happening through any means possible. Unfortunately, that was easier said than done. Eventually, he decided to start a war.
By beginning a war, Genghis Khan knew that it would force the tribes to stay together in order to fight their new enemy. Unfortunately, Genghis also needed an enemy who could hold their own against his military otherwise the tribes might not see the new enemy as a threat to them and just stop fighting them. Luckily, China, which was just South of the Mongolian lands, was reasonably strong and had the potential to put up a decent fight against the Mongolians' armies. With all of the tribes united against a common enemy, it would be no problem for Genghis Khan to maintain unity and control between them.
