There have been many opinions regarding the heated debate of Nature vs. Nurture, with both sides providing strong arguments for nature or nurture. One can say that what makes up a person is how they were raised and how they were influenced by their environment, such as their social groups and societal influences. However it does not explain how people obtain their physical abilities and physical appearance, and their sexual orientation and sex. believe that people think in certain ways because they were taught to do so. A person's sex is a characteristic that is clearly given to a person by their parents. It is possible to change the sex of a baby before it is born, but not after birth. It is very difficult to change a person's sex after they are born, as in the case of David Reimer. His circumcision surgery went wrong and he had to be changed into a girl. Throughout his life, his parents tried to change his ways to make him act like a girl, but to no avail. He still acted and thought like a boy even though he was nurtured and placed in an environment of girls. Another thing that isn't alterable is sexual orientation. Sexual orientation is affected mostly by genetics of an individual. Even though it is developed early in early childhood, sexual orientation is predetermined by certain "tendencies" a person is born with.
